In order to practice your essay analysis skills and written response for the January 20th exam, we will hold a few after school sessions in O’Grady Hall (Rm. 238) from 3:45-4:30 pm on these days:
· Thursday, January 6th – strategic approach to this exam & first run-through the essay · Monday, January 10th – thesis & development of the argument (paragraph functions) · Thursday, January 13th – rhetorical devices and how they help the argument · Monday, January 17th – written response · Wednesday, January 19th – final review (short new essay)
Instructions for after school sessions · Go to earlhaig.ca, “English Department Downloads” and print off a copy of “In the Wake of Pauline Kael” by Liam Lacey · We will use this essay to review all aspects of possible questions on the exam: tone, thesis, development of argument, rhetorical devices and your response to the thesis. · You may use your “Functions of a Paragraph” notes and your “Rhetorical Devices” notes to answer the following questions.
